A beverage plant lost two pallets of bottled product when the dark PET strap on a forklift-facing load snapped at a damaged weld. The operator could not see the weld because the opaque strap hid it. Transparent PET strapping removes that blind spot: the clear body shows weld quality, tension, and surface damage while keeping the 2-6 percent elongation that makes PET the closest plastic alternative to steel.
Transparent PET strapping is a drawn polyester strap that keeps PET's low elongation while making the strap itself inspectable.
PET strapping starts as PET resin, which is extruded into a flat sheet, stretched under tension to align the polymer chains, then slit into coils. That orientation step creates the steel-like stiffness. The transparent version simply skips the pigment, and this changes how operators use it.
Four numbers predict field performance: elongation at break, breaking strength, joint efficiency, and recovery under sustained load.
Standard PET elongates 2-6 percent before breaking. PP straps typically reach 8-15 percent, and steel straps stay under 1 percent. Lower elongation means less load shift before the strap transfers force to the pallet base; it also means the strap gives less visible warning before failure, which is why joint inspection matters more than on a ductile PP strap.
| Property | PET strap | PP strap | Steel strap |
| Elongation at break | 2-6% | 8-15% | under 1% |
| Tension retention in warmth | High | Moderate | High |
| Corrosion | None | None | Possible |
| Relative cost per meter | Medium | Low | High |
| Joint method | Seal or weld | Seal or weld | Seal only |
| Edge safety | Safe | Safe | Sharp |
Choose transparent PET whenever a single unchecked weld can cost more than the strap on the pallet. Choose opaque black PET when the unit loads will sit in direct sunlight for months.
Both versions share the same PET base and the same mechanical ranges. The difference is the pigment, and the pigment changes what you can see, how the strap behaves under UV, and how it fits into recycling.
Handheld Transparent PET Strapping in 16, 19, and 25 mm WidthsThis clear PET strap comes in four size combinations and suits light to medium bundling of cartons and textiles. Its transparent body makes labels and goods visible, and the four-digit code helps identify width and thickness at a glance.View Product →
A four-digit strapping code is readable geometry: the first two digits are the width in millimeters, and the last two are the thickness in tenths of a millimeter. A 1608 transparent PET strap is 16 mm wide and 0.8 mm thick.
Match the size to the load weight and to the tensioning tool. Handheld tools suit 1608 and 1610; machine strappers handle 1910 and 2512 more efficiently. Break load rises with the cross-section, so the code is the fastest way to compare suppliers before you request samples.
| Size code | Width x thickness | Typical break load | Typical application |
| 1608 | 16 x 0.8 mm | about 1,100 kgf | Hand tools, light pallets, bag and carton bales |
| 1610 | 16 x 1.0 mm | about 1,300 kgf | Hand or semi-automatic tools, beverage loads |
| 1910 | 19 x 1.0 mm | about 1,600 kgf | Machine strapping, brick and block packs |
| 2512 | 25 x 1.2 mm | about 2,400 kgf | Heavy profiles, metal extrusions, structural materials |
Suppliers such as Zhejiang Geruite Packaging Materials Co., Ltd. stock both transparent and opaque grades across the four common handheld sizes. For the same application running outdoors, or where color codes help teams identify product lines, the opaque version keeps the same break loads while adding UV screening.
Handheld Opaque PET Strapping with Textured Surface for Outdoor UseThe opaque PET strap keeps the same break loads as the transparent version while adding UV screening and a textured surface that reduces slippage. It suits outdoor applications and color-coded product lines in warehousing and logistics.View Product →
PET strapping is a thermoplastic polyester that can be reprocessed into new PET products, and the transparent version has the cleanest recycling profile in the strapping family because it contains no pigment.
For carriers and brands that need a monot-material packaging line, transparent PET strapping is a practical eco-friendly packaging choice because it can be detached from the load and routed to existing PET recovery streams.
PET stretches 2-6 percent before breaking, while PP stretches 8-15 percent. PET also keeps tension better in warm warehouse conditions, which makes it a better fit for heavy or tall pallet loads; PP is the cheaper choice for light, stable carton loads.
For most palletizing jobs, yes. PET offers steel-like stiffness without rust and without sharp edges, and it absorbs minor impact better than brittle steel. Steel remains necessary when the load has sharp edges that can cut plastic strap or when rail transport requires extreme holding force.
Only if the grade is UV-stabilized. Standard transparent PET is more sensitive to direct sunlight than carbon-black opaque PET, so pallets stored outdoors for months should use a UV-stabilized transparent grade or the black version.
